This is the true, complicated story of the decades-long battle to bring a baseball team to Florida's West Coast. Back in print for the first time in two decades, Bob Andelman's detailed investigation... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Andelman's "Stadium for Rent" gives a great look at the business of pro-sports and the dealings, pains and heartaches of trying to lure pro-sports to any city. This book chonicles Tampa Bay's quest for Major League baseball as the title suggests, however ti gives the reader a taste of the want and desire of a sports team (in this case, Major League Baseball) over the coldness of observing a team move from one city to the next. It is very easy to think of the greedy owners first and foremost when it comes to chasing the dream of a pro-sports franchise, and it isn't as easy seeing a city's passion for a franchise in a particular sports league, or the hurdles they face chasing that dream. One can criticise Tampa Bsy for lack of support in regards to the Devil Rays (one of the worst run franchises in pro-sports) but the passion for sports is there in the Bay area. Andelman gives you a taste of it.
