A gallery of people and topics are covered in this popular series. Spurgeon provides the busy pastor with starter material and the Christian reader with devotional meditations.
I bought this book a long time ago and I have to say it is RICH! My favorite chapter is, "The Dream of Pilate's Wife". Spurgeon's writings are so thought-provoking, encouraging, and stunning. There is something for everyone in this book and somehow he reminds me of C.S.Lewis in his writings. Here's a sample exerpt about Pilate's wife: "Once more, about this providence I want you to notice the peculiar time in which her warning came. It was evidently a dream of the morning: "I have suffered many things in a dream this day." The day had not long broken--it was yet early in the morning. The Romans had a superstition that morning dreams are true." Spurgeon goes on to say how even the hardest human hearts are accessible to God and Pilate was accessible through the dream of his wife. "...where the city missionary cannot enter; he sends the little children to sing and pray where the preacher is never heard" and more encouragement for those praying for lost loved ones as well as showing how very Just God is.
