Spring Through the Pandemic: Composed by Laura Nobili

Spring Through the Pandemic is a violin concerto which was commissioned by the VCM Chamber Orchestra with soloist Jonathan Crow in January 2021. It was performed on May 29, 2021 in a virtual concert, featuring Vivaldi's Four Seasons, intermingled with four original compositions representing experiences in each of the four seasons during the COVID-19 pandemic. Themes of sadness, uncertainty, fear, anger, frustration, and hope are explored - emotions all can relate with, in the beginning of such a difficult time. The piece aims to immortalize the impact of the pandemic through the medium of music, and connect with others in our experiences during such a distant and lonely moment in history.

Laura Nobili is a Canadian composer, director, and producer, born in 2006. From solo music to large ensembles, Nobili has written for various professional and student musicians across the country. She is the author of the piano book The Rainbow of Music and a co-author of A Journey Through Canada. Nobili is the composer of Macbeth the Musical, which she produced and directed in May 2023, and Gatsby, which she produced and directed in October 2023.
