There's poetry of academia, beautiful words, lofty thoughts, and possibly needing a classical education to fully understand and appreciate it.

There's poetry of life, described as doggerel or base verse, written to be performed in pubs, clubs, bars open mics, when to be listened to is a victory and to be applauded is heaven.

The performance poet is now probably the modern minstrel, though without music, and no subject is barred.

Pet hates, local issues, National grudges all get aired, and for a little while poetry becomes more than that thing laboured over at school, topical and relevant

Look not for any logic in the ordering of this book: it is meant to be a dip in at leisure experience
