Have you ever sat down to pray, and your mind begins to wonder? It goes something like this: God, thank you for all you have done for me. You are such a good God. You take care of me and my needs and I am so thankful. Thank you for providing groceries....wait, did I forget to take the milk out of the trunk? I don't remember if I heard the garage close all the way either...I need to get dinner going but I am sick of having to wash dishes first, they should have already been done... We call this wife's brain, don't worry; this is normal for many of us. And to let you in on a secret, God is not mad at you when this happens. He patiently waits for you to focus back on Him and He loves every second He hears from you (Psm. 103:8). On the Spiced Wife Podcast, we learn and discuss how to find time to be alone with God while having so many responsibilities. We have discovered, one of the most successful ways is writing our prayers in a journal. Nothing fancy, no guidelines, no deadlines, no rules. Just us and God, anytime, anywhere. While waiting for the oven to warm up, while sitting at our desk at work, while waiting for our kids to get out of school. Any moment we get to talk to God makes our day five-times better! By writing our prayers directly to God, we can physically see all that God is listening to (Jer. 29:12-13). Even when we make intentional time to read our Bible, we keep our prayer journal near and write out scriptures where God speaks directly to our hearts. We have grown so close to God in writing our prayers as letters to our Father in Heaven. Our favorite benefit is being able to go back to filled journals and re-reading prayers that God has answered!! Not only does keeping a prayer journal helps to maintain our focus (Col. 4:2), but this has also increased our faith to incredible levels! Writing directly to God is the best way to find peace in the middle of any storm.
