"A page-turner...Chichton's writing is cinematic, with powerful visual images and nonstop action. This book should come with hot buttered popcorn." NEWSWEEK A group of American scientists are rushed to a huge vessel that has been discovered resting on the ocean floor in the middle of the South Pacific. What they find defines their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship of phenomenal dimensions, apparently, undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old.... "The suspense is real." THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW
I took my first flight ever and decided to bring this book along with me. It did not disappoint! I really got into this one and enjoyed the intrigue. Aliens or maybe not you’ll have to find out.
Arguably Crichton's best work.

This book was fantastically put together and an easy read, despite its 500 pages. Once I started, I could not put this book down. Sphere is a fantastic sci-fi thriller that keeps the reader hooked throughout its twists and turns. This is a must-read for any Crichton or sci-fi fan.
Highly Enjoyable

SPHERE is considered by many to be one of Michael Crichton's best books. Now that I have read it, I can see why: this novel is a highly enjoyable read with a lot of action and suspense. Like most of his books, Crichton does a fine job integrating a lot of scientific information into the story. So this novel is not just fun to read, it is also educational. This novel does suffer from relatively two-dimensional characterization, but that's a common flaw with Crichton. Overall, I found the characterization in SPHERE to be stronger than some of his other books. The ending is the type you'll either love or hate, but I thought it was appropriate to the story. Overall, this is a very fine novel, and not a bad place to start if you're interested in trying Michael Crichton's work.
WOW!

Crichton has really outdone himself with this novel. Talk about intelligent sci-fi! Having read Jurassic Park and Congo, I'd have to say this one is even better, (although both were wonderful.) My only reservation in reccomending this book is swearing and a scene of mildly risque material. By the way, the movie is fantastic too, packing in much of the suspense from the novel with some extra goodies.
definitely worth reading.

Ok....don't pay attention to the movie. It didnt do the book justice. Not that the movie was bad, just that this book was so much better. Pay close attention to what happens on the last page. If you "get it", you will appreciate the whole book so much more.
