Two interesting novellas in one volume: The Warlock and Blood Moon

The Warlock: Princess Rhiannon, who was raised by her harsh and uncaring uncle after her parents death, is to be forced into a loveless marriage by her power-hungry uncle, the king. In this situation, Daigon, a powerful warlock and heir to the rightful king of the realm, who was murdered in his sleep by Rhiannon's father, comes to the castle. He demands not only the castle and the country, but also Rhiannon herself. Her uncle flees and leaves her behind in the hands of Daigon, knowing that he's seeking revenge against the family of his enemy. But is she really worse off with him than her ruthless uncle? As time passes and her uncle prepares to take back the kingdom, she comes to love Daigon. But will he ever trust and love his enemy's daughter? Blood Moon: Bitten by a were-animal as a child, Princess Aslyn first changes on the (full moon) night she meets her fiancee. She is happy enough with the arranged marriage to the handsome young man, but when she wakes up covered in blood and then hears that her fiancee has been torn to pieces, she is sure that she killed him in her animal form. Unable to bear the thought that she is a danger to the people she cares about, she flees the palace and starts a vagrant life. Moving from place to place, always running from discovery and unexplained deaths caused by "wolves", she is finally caught up with by the people hunting these "animals". Working as a healer in a small village between the two full moons, she can't leave when a group of soldiers camp in the area, hunting for the wolves that are responsible for many gruesome deaths . Their leader, Kale, develops an unsettling interest in her, but so does Lord Algar, who's also in the area with his soldiers. When murders that she can't possibly be responsible for occur and Kale gets closer and closer to her, it becomes clear that things are not as she thought they were. A ruthless werewolf is after her, killing everyone who gets close to Aslyn, the woman he wants for himself. But will she be able to escape him and make a life with the man she loves? I enjoyed both novellas very much. They have good characters, great atmosphere and a fine plot, and especially "Blood Moon" is unusual enough to be fascinating, which is quite an achievement considering how many werewolf stories there are. There are some minor flaws, especially explanations / resolutions that are a little hasty or an unnecessary complication in "The warlock" (spoiler: the childhood abuse story, that's not really needed, I think). Otherwise I would have given the book the full five points. But despite these minor weaknesses, that can definitely be forgiven a first-time author, the book is really worth buying. If you're not looking for the type of erotic romance where one sex scene is strung to the next, but for an intelligent story with interesting characters and a lot of atmosphere, you should enjoy this book.
