*Captain Kirk and the Kitchen Sink*

"Spectre" is an excellent read. Book one of William Shatner's Mirror Universe Trilogy has nearly everything for the Star Trek fan. An exciting story line; practically everyone's favorite characters; non-stop action; events predictable and totally unpredictable. This book has everything. And of course, since it's written by Shatner, the protagonist is Captain Kirk. This novel takes the reader back to one of the ten greatest episodes in the entire Star Trek television history, "Mirror, Mirror". The author weaves a story of what occurred after Kirk's appearance there influences the Mirror Universe Spock. Fast forward that event through more than 100 years of history, and bring the Mirror Universe characters into our universe for action and revenge, and you'll get the gist of the story.Sounds like your basic Star Trek episode, but it really comes across as more than that. This novel is the best Star Trek novel I have read and I have read quite a few. Just when you think you've seen the last character that can be squeezed in that allows the book to retain continuity, and BANG, here is another surprise that fits right in. Or is it a Mirror Universe duplicate of that character? Read the book and find out for yourself.I rate this book at a very enjoyable 4.70 out of 5.00 stars, rounded up to 5.00. If this is your kind of book, you won't want to put it down. I'd tell you more but that would ruin the surprises. Perfect for several hours of get your mind off life and serious stuff reading. It is also a good jumping on point to check out Shatner's Kirk based stories. No one understands Kirk better than Shatner. The author proves what a terrific fan he is of the Star Trek history too.

The Begining of it all

This is book one of the Mirror Universe saga. James Kirk is ready to settle down and live out the rest of his soon to be bride, but that doesn't even get a chance. The book is a great opener for the trilogy. Kirk is forced to rely on people from the corrupt mirror universe who think he is the evil former Emperor Tiberius. With Kirk facing so many obsticles, this is a quick read and will keep you going for hours on end. The ending of this Book is unthinkable and leads directly into book two, DARK VICTORY.

Wonderfully Expands the Star Trek Universe

I must agree with Marc DelMonico when saying that Williams Shatner has done an incredible job writing this book and keeping it contiuous with the Star Trek universe. While it is not continuous with "Dark Mirror" by Duane Ward, I am ready to dismiss that book for this. After all it was written by "Kirk" himself, how could it be wrong? This book has great plot development, and character development. An intriguing story is written by Shatner. I started reading this book in late afternoon and stayed up until one in the morning because I literally could not put this book down. I eagerly await reading "Dark Victory", Shatner's next offering.

This is one of shatner's best yet!

I couldn't put it down. I just bought it at the mall and I was tired form all the walking. So, I sat down and started to read. By the time my mother found me I was mostly though the book and on the way home I fished it. I believe that anyone else who read any of Shatner's books will back me on this, THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST YET. Shatner is a very good writer and I hope that all the Star Trek Fans read this book and its counterpart. Believe me you wont beable to put it down!!!

Great Book!

I enjoyed this book. Although, I did not know that it was (sort of) book 4 in a series. Make sure you read "Ashes of Eden", "The Return", and "The Avenger" before reading this.
