The middle book of the spanish trilogy, 'Spain for the sovereigns' even by itself is an absorbing book. It not only brings out the personalities of Fredinand and Isabella, it also tells the sweeping changes that Spain went through during their reign. This book ends magnificently, with both the sovereigns looking to the future which promises. Jean Plaidy attempts to explain the inquisition in context of their reign (In fact she wrote non fictional books about the inquisition after these), so you sort of understand why it happened even when you dont condone it. Its truly a remarkable book and I would highly recommend this to anyone who might be interested in how Spain was united under one throne.
