One day long ago, one of my students, Suzanne the Magician, (before she was Suzanne the Magician) asked me how she could start doing magic professionally. I suggested that she master three tricks then call on restaurants to see if she could do magic at their customer's tables. She did just that. Space Worm is one of the tricks she mastered.I visited her while she was working at one of her first gigs. While there, I bumped into someone I had worked with on a previous job. The three of us sat around talking about old times. He had become a research scientist working on new computer technology. While chatting, Suzanne performed Space Worm. I recollect her stuffing the heavy piece of yarn into a pocket formed in a handkerchief held in her hand. The yarn vanished from the handkerchief. Then she extracted the bit of yarn from a balled up napkin my friend was holding. I will never forget the look on my friend's face when he looked at me and said, "I have no idea how that got there."The book is 30 pages long and has 32 pictures. This trick uses a standard magic gimmick that is available in the ten-dollar range. The gimmick is available from most on line as well as walk in magic shops. The trick is easy to do and is useful as a walk around trick.A napkin is opened and rolled into a ball. It is given to a spectator to hold. A three-inch piece of very heavy yarn is shown. A handkerchief is placed over the performer's left fist. The middle of the handkerchief is pressed into the fist forming a well or cloth pocket. The yarn is pressed into the cloth well. The edge of the handkerchief is tugged pulling the cloth out of the fist. The yarn is no longer there. The paper napkin ball is torn open. The yarn is pulled from the center of the paper ball. The props are simple. The plot is simple. The magic effect is powerful.
