Smith began his career in financial services as a loan officer for State Employees' Credit Union. In 1992 he joined Local Government Federal Credit Union as executive vice president and now serves as chief executive officer.Smith and his wife, Diane Gilbert Smith, have two children and live in Cary, North Carolina. He is a deacon at Wake Chapel Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, and participates in several professional, community, and civic activities. Sowing Seeds is his first published book.
