Sower of Tares

'Sower of Tares' is built around several themes. First - Genetic traits can be passed down through generations. Second - Fear can have a powerful influence on how a person lives their life. A young girl is kidnapped from the small Belgian town of Binche. She is kept prisoner in a compound with five other women. The kidnapper comes from a family of sociopaths. She escapes, resulting in two of the family members being captured. The third escapes, and has promised to kill her and her family. She flees to America to start a new life. She is pregnant and her son exhibits the same traits as the man who raped her. She kills her son when he is twenty nine, and confesses to his murder. Her wealthy husband is determined to save her from the death penalty. A detective he has hired traces her past, resulting in a hung jury at her trial. Her son has left a young girl pregnant who flees to escape him. A search begins to find her. She has a daughter and raises her in a small town in Montana. Each woman experiences trauma in their lives, but finds a way to rise above it. The ending is shocking and brings all the elements of the novel together.
