This soft-spoken book speaks volumes about the human soul

Southport is a richly enjoyable read both for the author's immense talent for writing good, believable characters and for his ability to perfectly describe life along the southern North Carolina coast.The main character, Todd, discovers a new life for himself and an inner strength he didn't think he had...The story is told with the backdrop of the North Carolina sea coast and within the realm of deep sea fishing. I love to fish and spend my summers not far from Bald Head Island. So I feel he really captured the essense of the two perfectly.Finally, he packs a lot into what is essentially, a very average life and teaches us that each individual has his own deep story to tell.I highly recommend this book.

Any Carolinian would appreciate this regional book -- The story of the maturation of a young man who leaves the tobacco farm for the love of the outer banks. This story also treats violence , abuse, and alcohol.Todd is determined to break the cycle and be a good father to his children. This book is easy to read. Perhaps a map should be included with the text.-- Ele Mae
