Southern Fried Felonies III: Where's Sally is author Clay Mercer's third book in the Southern Fried Felonies series. Where's Sally tells the story of Charlie Watson and Sara Dean "Sally" Beale. Charlie, a computer guru, works as the head of cyber security for a large corporate banking operation. Sally works as a physical therapist and appears to be working frantically to pay off her student loans so that Charlie will work up the courage to formally "pop the question" and put an engagement ring on Sally's finger. Sally has her mind made up that Charlie should propose on her birthday, but on that day she leaves for work and mysteriously disappears. Sally's mother assures Charlie that Sally has simply gone off to sulk, probably to be pampered in a day spa, but Charlie calls the police to officially report Sally as missing.

Says Mercer, "The concept of doing a series of crime stories set in the South took root several years ago as I was brainstorming with a friend about a title for a work in progress. That story, a tale of a ne'er do well con man, was eventually published under the title Natural Born Crazy. However, among the titles suggested by my friend Jason Echols was Southern Fried Felonies, which seemed a natural title for a collection of short stories. When my next project, A Barn Without Cattle, began to take shape, I decided to attach it to the Felonies concept and have a shot at a series of books."
