Book Overview

"You know Charlie, I got to thinking just the other day that I haven't felt this relieved since we dispatched Henry Lansdale". "Why do you say that, Em?""If we were to do it all over again, would we have left MorningStar Farm during the spring of 1879 for adventure and to find out if we had what it takes to survive out west, who we've become, and what we've accomplished?"
"Yes. Wouldn't you?"
"Lately, I've had my doubts, but in the grand scheme of things I am glad that we did. There are times when I wished we knew then, what we know now."
"Where would the adventure have been in knowing that?"
"Absolutely nowhere, I guess."
Two brothers, Charlie and Emmett Cooper have conquered many obstacles since that spring day. Each in his own right over the last two decades have followed a different path (Book 2 - Separate Trails). Charlie, the younger of the two, has two ranches to worry about, one in Wyoming and the other in Nebraska, both different, yet the same; Meg, who is every part the good wife and mother understands her husband better than he knows himself.
Emmett, the older brother, has for the last decade been the foreman of The Parker Farm on James Island, South Carolina. He and his wife Sarah, Meg's older sister, have led a simple life while living on the farm. He like many men of the day have resigned himself to the fact that he should be grateful for what they have. Em as he is known to everyone, wants more for his family and has it in the back of his mind to do just that when the time is right. Throw into the mix one person who hates both brothers and is going to make them pay for what they did to him. One brother who deprived him of making a living; the other, who took away his manhood. In South Creek, Em and Charlie must face aging parents, family obligations, and health issues. The brothers work in different ways to conquer evil for the safety of their families and a threat to their futures.
