Sortes Sanctorum: Sacred Lots, Christian Divination, and the Search for God's Answer

By Lila Glenn

A forbidden tradition survived inside the Church.

Sortes Sanctorum reveals the hidden world of sacred lots, a method of Christian divination practiced in late antiquity and the medieval world, where believers sought answers not through prophecy, but through chance guided by God.

This book uncovers the true history of the Lots of the Saints, a system condemned by councils yet preserved in manuscripts, whispered through shrines, and used by those who stood in moments of fear, illness, and uncertainty.

Inside this work, you will discover:

- The true origins of Sortes Sanctorum and its roots in the ancient world
- How Christian divination was reshaped from pagan oracle traditions
- The role of saints, shrines, and relics in guiding human fate
- The exact method of consultation using sacred lots and dice
- Why the Church feared and condemned this practice
- The survival of the text across centuries of suppression
- A full reconstruction of how the oracle was used in real life

This is not myth. This is not speculation.

This is a documented, historical system once used to seek divine answers.

Written with depth, clarity, and scholarly precision, this book brings to light a practice that stood between faith and fear, between doctrine and human need.

For those drawn to the hidden edges of religion, history, and the forbidden, this is a rare and compelling study of one of Christianity's most overlooked traditions.
