Raised in poverty, Mitchell is neglected and abused by his father continually but he fights back, both at home and at school. As he grows older, the confrontation between father and son escalates until he's finally arrested. He's always relied on friends to provide a better life and now, at the age of seventeen, he is rescued by his employer. Since he seriously wants to attend college and has to pay his own way, he decides that fighting is one of his better skills so he resorts to boxing to achieve his goals. Naturally, he develops personal relationships on his journey so does he become his own man, a better husband than his father, or is he doomed by genetics and his own upbringing to repeat those same mistakes.
