Writing poetry has become a newly founded enjoyment of mine. Well, that's not entirely true. I've been writing small snippets of poetry for years. But I suppose romantic poetry is a newly established enjoyment of mine.

In 2020, when the lockdown first began, I had struggled as everyone did, with mental health issues. Lack of motivation lost interest in things I used to love and isolated myself from everyone. Writing was sadly, one of the things I had chucked aside. I hit a breaking point around the end of 2020 and that's when I knew; A change has to be made. I sickened myself to a schedule that included healthy recreational activities and started focusing on schoolwork a lot more.

Writing embedded itself into my routine and it was incredibly therapeutic. Not being able to express my emotions and feelings verbally created a barrier between me and other people in my life. It created a distance that was too immense to overlook or surpass for such a long time that it felt as if I was stranded.

Being able to have a mental escape from feeling complete and utter isolation was a big part of my mental recovery and writing was the only way I was able to escape. Being introduced to the personal project this year has allowed me to venture deeper into thoughts of mine, explore emotions I haven't previously & fully allow myself to display my work with pride.

I hope the words within these pages serve as proof that no matter how put together we are as people, it's okay to feel vulnerable at times, and it's okay to feel as thought it's the end, and it's most definitely okay not to know what happens next.
