Sonnets And Canzonets

By Amos Bronson Alcott

Book Overview

Sonnets And Canzonets is a collection of poetry by A. Bronson Alcott, an American teacher, philosopher, and writer who was associated with the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. The book contains a total of 45 poems, including 30 sonnets and 15 canzonets. The sonnets in this collection are written in the traditional form of 14 lines with a rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. They cover a range of themes, including nature, love, spirituality, and philosophy. Many of the sonnets are deeply introspective and explore the author's own thoughts and emotions. The canzonets, on the other hand, are written in a more complex form that features a repeating refrain and a series of interlocking rhymes. They are often more playful and lighthearted than the sonnets, with subjects ranging from mythology and folklore to everyday life.Overall, Sonnets And Canzonets is a beautifully crafted collection of poetry that showcases Alcott's skill as a writer and his ability to capture the essence of the human experience in verse. It is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the art of poetry and the power of language to convey deep meaning and emotion. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
