Songs of Neglect is a passionate book that centres on a certain African culture that does not value orphans, widows, commoners, girl child and inputs from children or youths, but believes strongly that old age with grey hairs, mostly from royalty, can speak wisdom that can save the people. They believed that children and youths must grow to their ages before they have a say in life.
Green, a young boy, was faced with battered experiences in life, such that he gets angry and wants to fight with death. Though he couldn't hold it concretely, he stubbornly enslaved his heart, rejecting peace, smiles, friendship and happiness because his father and mother died without nursing him. His aged grandmother, full of promises about life who later took care of him, followed the same route immediately. So he was thrilled to partner with tombs, rats, cockroaches, crickets, lizards and birds in the silent cemetery where he visited often and slept.
Despite his stubbornness, Green was blessed with wisdom, knowledge and intelligence. His credibility in matters exposed him to a lonely chief who had similar experiences in life, though not as young as the young death hunter.
The older man was sure of his bright future, so he tried as much as he could to lure Green out of death experiences. Finally, his curiosity to speak with his late parents and grandmother after several years of deafening silence exposed him to smiles preached by them. However, royalty invaded Green's territory such that "songs of neglect" could not be sung as usual as he challenges and changed ancient narratives and could deliver help, smiles, freedom and justice to widows, orphans, commoners, slaves, girls, women, children and youths before he sits on the throne as a ten-year-old boy.
