Songs, Albums & Quotes by the Eagles: An Introduction of the Eagles for Gen Z

The Eagles were born in 1971, died in 1980 and were reborn in 1994. Linda Ronstadt needed a band for a Disneyland concert and hired a band that conisted of drummer Don Henely (whom she met at the Troubador Club in Los Angeles), guitarist Glenn Frye. Her producer John Boylon recommended Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon and they performed at Disneyland and then on Linda Ronstadt's third album. Ronstadt said, "They use to rehearse in my beach house because I had the largest living room. She said the day she came home and heard them rehearsing "Witchy Woman" and I heard the four-part harmonyies, I just knew it was going to be a hit. It was just fantastic "

The myth is the idea for the name "Eagles" came to them during a peyote and tequila-influenced group outing in the Mojave Desert. It was a nod to the Hopi Indian reverence to the eagle. The mission of the Eagle was country rock with rustic accents whose songs focused on emotional ups and downs of relationships and life. The band became one of the world's best-selling music artists selling over 200 million records worldwide. They released seven studio albums, releasing four consectutive number one albums between 1975 and 1979. Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 has sold 26 million copies to date. Their highest selling studio album, Hotel California (1976) has been certified 26x Platinum. This is the masterpiece of the Eagles.

The Eagles have 21 songs in the top 100, 10 top ten hits and 5 number one hits. Some of their hits include "Heartache Tonight," "Hotel California," "New Kid in Town," "One of These Nights," "Witchy Woman," "Lyin' Eyes," "The Long Run," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "Take It Easy" among the many others. In 1998 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2015 became Kennedy Center honorees. Glen Frey passed away in 2016, and the band has been playing in the Sphere in Las Vegas as of 2024 and 2025.
