Taken prisoner at the Somme, he is transported to a prison camp in Germany. A doctor takes pity on him and helps him to escape to Ireland' where is pursued by the army and returned to the war where disaster awaits him.
Finally, he returns home and joins in the war of independence but when disaster strikes yet again
he finishes with all interest in war.

This is a powerful and harrowing story portraying
themes of loss, survival, love and the devastating impact of war on a young boy's life.
