What if the only place you feel alive is in your dreams?
Gavin has always kept a low profile. He doesn't chase adventure, doesn't ask for much, and definitely doesn't expect life to get interesting. At least not by his own effort. He watches movies, listens to other people talk, and lets his days quietly pass. It's worked for years, until recently. The days start to blur, and the silence between the things he watches feels louder than it used to.
Then the dreams start.
They're small at first. Flashes of places he's never been, people he's never met, moments he wouldn't otherwise be in. But they grow longer, clearer, and disturbingly specific. Not because of what happens in them, but because they all seem to center around someone Gavin knows but wouldn't have chosen to dream about.
He tells himself it's harmless.
"No harm ever came from dreaming. It's just like watching a movie, or reading a book."
But the more he dreams, the harder it is to stay awake.
