This book can help young teens understand life's inequalities.

'Sometimes Art Can't Save You' is a must read book. It reveals the horrific world of abuse and secrecy in which the innocent are forced to live in. This book guides you through the life of the main character who is a sensitive young girl who's voice is caged by her painfuly unbearable family experiences. Jill Ferguson's book put me in that place and helped me to experience those emotions. This is something I would have never felt on my own and for this I thank her.

I laughed, I Cried!

I laughed, I cried on this emotional journey I was drawn into this book from the first page and could not wait to turn the next and the next page, wanting to find out more about this young girl. I laughed, I cried, and I got so angry for her. This is an incredible book! A must read for every parent, grandparent and teen. Ms. Ferguson takes you on a journey of pain and love and struggle and strength. I read this book straight through from beginning to end and wanted more. I wait anxiously for the next book by Jill Ferguson.

Sad but realistic story

Jessica is a teenage girl with an abusive stepfather and neglectful mother. A talented painter, she immerses herself in her art to escape the hopelessness of her life. Her dearest friend - an old woman who gives Jessica the love and attention she ought to be getting from her mother - tries to help, but tragedy intervenes. Jessica ultimately must face a terrible choice which may be the only way to regain control of her life. This book handles a difficult subject with directness and honesty. Hopefully its dissection of issues such as sexual abuse and cutting will help young people suffering under similar circumstances.

Fabulous!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are realistic and stayed with me long after I finished reading it. It is beautifully written and explores the struggles of a teenager living in a dysfunctional household. The book includes some painful subjects and handles them in a compelling way. I highly recommend it and I look forward to Ms. Ferguson's next novel.

Provocative Parental Reading

From a parent's perspective, Sometimes Art Can't Save You is a sharp reminder how our personal struggles affect our children and how easy it is to overlook the message our own behavior carries. Jessica's search for self-identity leads her to choices, whether to heed her inner voice or follow the example of her elders. Troubling outcomes, conflicting emotions, difficult decisions, stepping-up when called... our heroine is thrust into situations her mother can't sort and finds her own truth in the process. This is not a comfortable read about adolescent maturation but its message is unmistakable, provocative, and very worthwhile. E. Kamholz - Parent
