Somethings Fishy: Getting Rid of the carp in your life

Having read several of Jay Carty's books now I have to say he is an incredibly inspiring writer and person to say the least. I am so excited each month as I check for new "stuff" from Jay Carty as it is always refreshing and different yet always connected to God with a three stranded cord. If you haven't been a reader of his books for long there are many to choose from and this writer never stops searching for Gods will in his daily efforts to continue to provide hearty reading material for all groups and all stages from salvation, and growth to a mature level of one's spiritual walk. I highly recommend anything he puts his hands on because I know the hand of God is on him. Some of what I have read and or listened to on tape are:"Discovering your natural talents", "Counter Attack: taking back ground lost to sin", "Playing with fire", "Something's fishy Getting rid of the carp in your life","Coach Wooden One on One", "Coach Wooden's Piramid of success", Darrell Waltrip - One on One, "Mike Singletary- One on One" all keeping me captivated from cover to cover! Dora Wolfe - CA

Just a spoonful of humor...

...makes Carty's strong medicine a delight to swallow! I have gotten so much mileage out of Carty's fish metaphor, gave away so many copies, and received so much great feedback about this book, I was shocked when I went to order it just now and discovered it was out of print! It's a classic in the classic sense: * though some of the examples are dated, they were dated when Carty wrote them, so the fact that Carty played for the Lakers more than 25 years ago (rather than 12 or whatever), doesn't matter. He writes as a pro basketball player that no one remembers- truer now than when he wrote it! But the stories are as funny now as then. His humor doesn't smell of the '80s. * its prose is clear, strong, entertaining, not laden with unnecessary slang or dead metaphors. * its main metaphor is timelessly relevant: truths about fishing, bass fishing in particular, have not changed in hundreds of years, nor will they no matter what technology does in the future. * its message is eternal. We humans will always struggle with sin; always want to conform to the crowd; always be called by God to follow him with wisdom, courage and passion. My younger brother was given this book when he was still new to following Christ (in his mid-20s) and said it was a profound turning point for him: changed his life, deepened his trust in God, and strengthened his resolve to live like the bass he is. I was hoping to buy a new copy for my near-teen son, who was not even born when the book was published. Now I will have to dig around for my old copy of this book. Why did I have to go and get over-educated, and lose track of this treasure on the "lower shelf"? Maybe I can borrow my brother's copy. ;-)

A fun to read book about God and happiness

With the use of fish as teaching tools for real life, I found a humorous, easy and fulfilling way to identify with how to be a good person and a true Christian without the guilt. The honesty in this book allowed me to evaluate my life and discover that the answers to my spiritual questions were clearly laid out in this book. Not only is it comforting and complete, I chose to read it quickly in order to find the answers to my questions. If you are concerned about your relationship with Christianity or have a spiritual question about it then this is the book for you.
