Robert Bates was born in the Bronx in 1905. He moved to Norwalk, CT. at age 3 and lived there for over 40 years until he moved to Daytona Beach, FL. He always considered Norwalk home. Read about his life growing up in Norwalk, CT. without a father. How by age 17 he had been in and out of 2 children's homes. Life during the depression, businesses he owned and lost, the river rescue, 16mm films he shot of now historic events in and around Norwalk, CT. and Daytona Beach, FL., stage groups he formed, Locally and Nationally known musicians he played with, and much more heartwarming events. A successful man with an unsuccessful life. He finished his poorly written autobiography in 1979. He gave a copy to each of his children that Christmas. He had always hoped someone would rewrite it into proper book form. For a long time, parts of his original writings were missing. Now 40 plus years later, they have all been found. Through painstaking research to confirm the details written, a son Donald Bates, and grandson William Bates, have edited his original writings with added content, as his life and events in it continued after he stopped writing, into a book everyone should enjoy Trigger Warning!!
