A future where a thought can bring every desire - or every nightmare Police detective George Chen lives in a perfect world. Through the connection he can have clothes, food, or anything else he desires delivered to his apartment by service robots who know exactly what he wants before he does. AI robots create virtual meeting places so real it seems he can sit on furniture, take in aromas and taste food, all generated in his mind. Entertainment produced by AI robots is fed directly into his mind as if he were in the story. People rarely leave their homes because everything can be delivered. They have actually lost the ability to provide for themselves and rely completely of the AI robots It is Utopia. But Utopia is not all it seems. Everyone guards their thoughts and expressions of emotion because Central Control is always listening to the cybertraffic on The Connection and no one wants to be accused of subversive ideas. A man commits a heinous crime when he breaks his link to The Connection. George is sent to investigate and discovers a conspiracy so horrific it threatens the existence of the human race, but not the conspiracy he expected.
