A funny and heartfelt take on what getting married is all about, Something New takes readers from one couple's engagement to their first anniversary. When the love of her life slipped a diamond ring on her finger and said the magic words, Amanda Beesley entered the enchanted world she had dreamed of since childhood. If the reality doesn't always match the fantasy, Amanda quickly uncovers the comedy in every predicament. It's hard to keep smiling when she discovers that her mother has Alzheimer's. But the tender way her father attends to her mother, becomes its own lesson in marriage well-lived. Perceptive, intimate, and inspiring, Something New is a delight for anyone thinking about marriage, old or new.
I was surprised at how accurate and candid this book was, complete with funny descriptions of the true feelings that come with getting married. I've already given my copy to my best friend, who's engaged and (like most of us) clueless about what's to come. The writer puts things beautifully and honestly, and once you open the book you can't put it down. The best book on the subject of marriage that I've ever read. Thank you, JR, for recommending it!

My maid of honor gave me this book the day before I got married, and I absolutely couldn't put it down. The author is hysterically funny about the honest ups and downs of getting married (so true! ) and she is a very sensitive and moving writer when it comes to her mother's illness with Alzheimers. This is the best and most honest book I've read about getting married, and I recommend it to anyone thinking of getting hitched. Don't be scared!

I heard about this book on accident and immediately purchased it after reading what it was about. I am in the first year of marriage & identified with so much of what Ms. Beesley was writing about. This was an excellent book and it gave me a great feeling to know that other women, in their first year of marriage, experience what I am now experiencing. I would buy this for all my single & married friends!

To bad this chick's already been snagged by some lucky dog, 'cause she captured my heart. Funny, touching, poignant, mirthful, distressing, etc. Reflections on the Beginnings of a Marriage reminds me why we continue to search for our soul-mates. Yes, Amanda, I will continue. Thank You.
