Book Overview

Regally beautiful, Lady Alexandra Wilton has refused to wed without love. She will not compromise--until her father dies and his shocking will reveals that Alexandra will lose everything unless she marries his heir. Much to everyone's surprise, the next earl is an upstart, a fiery Highlander just as outraged at the prospect of wedding a frosty Englishwoman as Alexandra is at the very idea of bedding him. But for this romantic lady, the unexpected...

No all that bad.

I've never read a Joan Wolf book before, therefore I had nothing to gauge it by. I liked the book. The idea of someone wanting to marry for love is quaint but I can't fault her either. Just because someone is handsome don't mean you have to sleep with them, there are some really good looking guys that are so wrapped up in themselves they don't have time for anyone else. A lot of people married for convenience not for love. And given the option to marry and get rich or not marry and remain poor, I'd choose married in a minute. The coming together of the two is what makes the book and a little suspense makes the book interesting. I don't understand all the complaints about the book, I've read plenty of bad, gosh awful books before and this is not one.

Joan Wolf is the best!

No one writes romance better than Joan Wolf. She writes so well and understands the best stories are character-driven. Plus, with so many romance writers tending toward tawdriness, Ms. Wolf is a class act indeed! I enjoyed this book but I must confess I really enjoy those books of Ms. Wolf which are written in first person (I recommend The Pretenders or her short story "The Antagonists" in the compilation Captured Hearts). I've been reading Joan Wolf since she wrote Signet Regencies and most everything she's written in this genre is a keeper! If you've never read her books, do yourself a favor and seek them out!

Great as usual but...

I loved this book, I only wish there had been more development of the hero and a little more danger. The book was good but not strong enough.

A winning romance

In May 1813, the Earl of Hartford is disgusted with his daughter for her continual rejection of the most leading eligible males of the Ton. Alexandra wants to marry for that silly notion of love. Knowing he is ailing and worried about Alexandra's future, the Earl decides he must take action. Five months later, the Earl dies in the arms of one of the girls working at London's Madame Dufour's establishment. Even more shocking is his will that insists that his daughter must wed the benefactor of his will or both will be cut off with no income. Initially, Alexandra thinks her cousin Geoffrey is the heir, but five months later Scotsman Niall MacDonald arrives with a stronger claim. As Niall and Alexandra agree to a marriage of convenience, they begin to fall in love with one another. However, accidents that seem deliberate start to befall Niall. Working as a team, Niall and Alexandra struggle to uncover the identity of the individual trying to kill him. SOMEDAY SOON is an engaging Regency romance starring two exhilarating lead charcaters. Although the identity of the villain seems obvious, the who-done-it adds to the overall excitement of the tale. Alexandra and Niall make a captivating pair whose love shines throughout the novel even as their relationship fills the book with humor. Best-selling author Joan Wolf writes a pleasant historical romance that will satisfy her fans.Harriet Klausner

Another Great Story from Wolf

I love it when I see that a new Joan Wolf book has been published because I know that it will be a quality book. Her newest book about an English noblewoman and her Highland husband, Someday Soon, is no exception. This book has romance intrigue, a great hero and heroine and a strong story line.Lady Alexander Wilton is one of the most beautiful women in England. She is also one of the most stubborn, she wants to marry for love. After three seasons and innumerable marriage proposals her father loses patience and adds a codicil to his will that forces her to wed the seventh Earl of Wilton, who everyone thinks is her Cousin Geoffrey. Of course her father dies soon after adding this to the will. If she does not marry the seventh Earl all of her fathers un-entailed wealth will go to the Jockey Club. If this happens Alexander will be without money and her beloved home will be without funds. Only Geoffrey is not the seventh Earl, a wild Highlander is. Niall Macdonald is the grandson of a Highland Chief and the son of the late Earls younger brother. He is the rightful heir. What I enjoyed so much about this story was that it was a story of equals, while Wolfe never specifically gave Niall's age it was inferred that he was around the same age as Lady Alexander who is 21 years old. Niall was kept from being portrayed as a callow youth by his responsibilities and his care for his people as the Mac-Mhic-Donnail Chief in training. He vows to never love a frail English woman even though he is half-English himself and she is sure that she could never love a Highland barbarian like him. Of course since this is a romance they are both wrong.Someday soon was a wonderful book, a quick engaging read with a sweet love story. The main characters are equals are both likeable characters and most of the secondary characters are engagingly drawn although if a couple of them had been taken out it would not have changed the story line really at all.
