BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE TAKING AP CHEMISTRY

This book is extremely thorough, and good at introducing different types of equilibrium. Figures, since Zumdahl wrote this. I owe part of my 5 on the AP Chemistry test to this book. There are so many problems (approximately 60 per chapter, there are six chapters on different kinds of EQ as listed in the prior review), and so many ways it forces you to apply these new concepts. Moreover, the examples are always clear and the explanations make sense. This is practice heaven. EQ will always be on the AP Chemistry test, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to prepare. There is an answer key, but you cannot let yourself be tempted to copy from the answer key if your teacher assigns you portions of this book. The best way to learn is to do the EQ problems, and then check it with the back of the book. However, since we live in the age of TI-89, I advise you to scrap with the quadratic method advocated by Zumdahl and press solve in the TI-89, which is much quicker and much more accurate.

A very good reference and learning tool

This is a great book for working equilibrium problems from different angles. The author makes you think through each problem - you can't just use given numbers and "plug-and-chug" - you have to think about what is happening to that system. I was a fan of Zumdahl's General Chemistry text, so I expected this book to be to my liking also. There are six chapters: 1. Equilibria Involving Gaseous Reactants and Products 2. Acid-Base Equilibria 3. Acid-Base Titrations and Indicators 4. Solubility Equilibria 5. More Involved Equilibrium Problems 6. Qualitative Analysis There are a series of "tests" in each chapter (ex. Chapter one has 10 tests), which are inserted in the body of the chapter following the introduction or discussion of the concept and a worked example. The answers to the tests are in the back, and are worked out step by step. There are also exercises, which far outnumber the tests. The solutions in the back, but only the answers. Then there are multiple-choice problems, also with just the answers given.
