Dutch photographer Jeroen Toirkens and writer Petra Sjouwerman went looking for stories in this region, comparing their own adventures with the historical diary of Gerrit de Veer, one of the crew on Dutch navigator Willem Barents' third voyage in search of the Northeast passage, during the sixteenth century.
