Solid Waste Management and Administration

The main objective of this paper is to analyse the topic of solid waste in light of the 1988 Federal Constitution of Brazil and federal legal norms that deal with basic sanitation, specifically Federal Law No. 12,305/2010, which established the National Solid Waste Policy. This is a complex and interesting topic, involving areas such as the environment, health, education, society, economics, technology, engineering, etc., in addition to public and private entities. Also noteworthy is the change in perspective: what was once considered garbage and had no value or use, destined only for disposal in places with no concern for the environment, is now considered solid waste, with economic value, generating employment and income, and which, with the use of techniques, can be reused and/or recycled, used for composting or transformed into energy.
