This book is a tad dated, and you will find that there are several different releases of the same book, as it has been popular for a long time. Nowadays, with a few exceptions and a few magazines, everything is all about computers. You can probably build one of those critters with your eyes closed now that there is a plethora of integrated circuits. All you have to do is choose the part of the chip that you want to use.
What's fun with this book is that you not only learn about solid-state but also get to build practical toys. If you have a local electronics store, as I do, you can still get the parts and breadboard your systems. This book has several fun projects and describes them in enough detail that you can pick the parts and follow the diagrams.
