This special publication of the Society is planned to bring together some of the best current ideas on soil testing as a guide for fertilizer recommendations. Most any chemist can analyze a soil or an extract of a soil, but that is only the beginning of the problem. Some chemical properties of a soil remain constant; other properties change, even in the season. Mountains of such data have accumulated and are added to each year. The problem is to reduce this data to terms that are meaningful--terms that have reliable predictive value.
