At first, the historical background before the Sovjet occupation in 1979 will be analyzed. Afterwards, the arising and origin of the Taliban and the following political and cultural consequences will be examined. This paper then examines the Western intervention in Afghanistan and its impacts on the country, whereby its development of the last 40 years will be taken into consideration.
