Social Story: When I Feel Angry

This book allows parents to discuss possible strategies to de-escalate anger with their children. A social story format was used to help children with special needs identify potential scenarios and choices to handle difficult situations. In my practice, I encourage parents to view misbehavior as a learning opportunity for a child to grow. It is important to help the child identify "who" was hurt in the incident, "how" that made the person feel, "what" the child can do to fix the mistake, and "identify" an alternative behavior to similar situations in the future. This book can help initiate discussions about alternate behaviors to manage anger outbursts.
