In the Republic of Guinea, the last few years have been marked by major reforms in the mining sector. These have focused mainly on the adoption of a corporate social responsibility policy for companies in the mining sector. It was felt that these reforms would contribute to the economic and social development of local communities hosting mining companies. The study reveals the degree of ownership of corporate social responsibility and local content policies, and the status of local development agreements (LDAs). It also examines the mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the social responsibility practices of mining companies, and the relations between local communities and mining companies. Based on these findings, we formulate recommendations for mining stakeholders.
