The heart of the argument is a comparison of Steiner's views with those of John Rawls and Peter Singer, perhaps the two greatest moral philosophers of the second half of the 20th century. Peters Singer's work suggests a thought experiment whereby the notions of reincarnation and karma turn out to be central to an understanding of social justice.
