This book has been out of print for some time now and is I'm told been in legal limbo so isn't likely to soon be reprinted but is one of the very best and most useful tactic books I've ever found. Allen Wade was in charge of things first in England and later in the Irish Republic and used to come here to the States to lecture and was always one of the better aspects of attending the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's convention each year back in the 80's and 90's. This book explains why some things tend to work better than others and doesn't insist on it being the only way to do it that way (... Something that the later FA books rather often did do) but explained why he suggested it be done in this manner. It is not full of pretty pictures but has many basic diagrams and good texts that is not chock full of gobbeldy gook but is written in rather clean English and not hard to follow... the margin of the book is wide enough and so actually is available to add a few notes of your own if you like. Whenever I find this available I tend to buy it and pass it on to other coaches as it is a far more useful text than is usually available now and while he did a series of positional books a few years later, this is a more concise single volume than those. It is what it claims to be, a book on tactics rather than skills.
