Margaret Daley's Inspirational suspense novel, So Dark the Night, is a really good book among some that are often a novelty. On her way to see her brother during a much needed break from her busy schedule as a photographer to the stars, Emma St. James becomes the witness of his murder. While trying to escape the murderers, she is shot and hit by a car, which is driven by Rev. Colin Fitzpatrick; which happens to save her life by preventing the killers from finishing her off. After Emma recovers in the hospital, she finds she has not only lost her memory but her sight as well. Feeling responsible for her condition Rev. Fitzpatrick takes her to his aunt's house to recuperate; this in turn enlightens him of her need for a relationship with the Lord. Colin finds himself drawn to her vulnerability and strength while trying to help her through her recovery and the death of her brother. His new role in her rehabilitation changes his guilt over having hit her with his SUV into a love that he didn't believe he would ever feel again. His job changes from helping her to protecting her, to loving her. So Dark the Night, is a great book with realistic characters and a unique plot skillfully crafted to keep the reader from being able to put it down until the story is over. I loved her romance novels and Margaret Daley has proven she is equally gifted as a suspense author. You've got to read this book! Good suspense

Emma St. James saw the two men who killed her brother. Worse, they saw her. She was running for her life, trying to hide in the deep woods surrounding the cabin. When she realized they were closing in on her, she panicked and ran out into the highway, right in the path of a speeding car. The Reverend Colin Fitzpatrick, driver of the car, didn't know the young woman he hit, but he felt responsible for her safety. Emma wasn't seriously hurt, but she is in danger from the men who were chasing her. Colin and Emma try to unravel the mystery surrounding her brother's death,but ruthless men who are determined to kill her to protect their identity are quickly closing in. Margaret Dalen is very good at building suspense and keeping the reader guessing. Her characters are likable and believable and the conflict is strong. Throw in a quirky aunt who is an ex-army officer, teaches self-defense, and bakes the best chocolate chip cookies in the county, and you have a winner. A throughly enjoyable story.

A good story, well told

(Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense) Photographer Emma St. James witnessed her brother's murder, but she can't remember any of it. Worse, she cannot see. While she's in the hospital, she receives a visit from Pastor Colin Fitzpatrick, who had accidentally hit her with his SUV on the highway after she got shot in the shoulder. He offers a comforting presence to Emma as she battles her frustrations with her blindness, not being able to remember what happened--AND her celebrity parents. Margaret Daley's latest offering is So Dark the Night, and it is a riveting read. It is easy to sympathize with Emma in her plight, and Colin is a true hero. My favorite character, however, is Colin's aunt Grace, retired from the Army. Additionally, I loved the juxtaposition of light and darkness, and sight and blindness, as continuous threads throughout the book. This is the first in this series that I've read, and I enjoyed it. I was familiar with Margaret Daley's Love Inspired series, The Ladies of Sweetwater Lake, and I knew she could tell a good story. I found the plot intriguing and the mystery unpredictable (I honestly had the murderers pegged all wrong, which both surprised and impressed me). The love relationship between Emma and Colin grew gradually and was believable and very sweet. Emma's relationship with Colin's teenage daughters was fun to read and precious at the same time. So Dark the Night will appeal to fans of Dee Henderson, but Margaret Daley can hold her own in this genre. I look forward to reading her other suspense novels in the future. So Dark the Night is an exciting, suspenseful page-turner. Emma St. James is able to rebuild her life on a new solid foundation, a foundation of faith, hope and trust. Her relationship with Rev. Colin Fitzpatrick forces her to face the truth about her life and her family relationships. Ultimately, her physical blindness is healed, but more importantly, her spiritual blindness is removed as well.
