The book addresses the main groups of letter combinations taught in 2ⁿᵈ grade:
"L" group (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl);"R" group (br, cr, dr, fr, gr, kr, pr, tr);"S" group (sc/sk, sl, sm, sn, sp, st, sw).For example:
p.11, FR: Snuffly has a friend from France. She is fancy She can dance
She is frizzy. She is frilly. Ooo La La Her name is Lily
p. 20, SN: Snuffly, with a nose for 'snitchin', sneaks for snacks into the kitchen.
("L", "R" and "S" combinations also provide practice for anyone with speech difficulties, who pronounces blue and "bwoo"; friend as "fwend" or snack "thnack".)
ch, sh, si/on/tion, th, wh: S. Silent: gh as in night light and g in gnaw, and kn in knife;ch in Phillip;Hard c (cat) and e (ice) that turn soft as in pencil, leg, bicycle, and Ginger at the gym.For example:

Snuffly's in school learning addition.
Adding up dog treats is his main mission.
