SNL Bumpers

Bumpers are photographs that the networks run in between the commercials. I was asked to shoot on SNL and to make a series of images that would stand out for the season. Images were shot on pan o tomic film with a medium format. I had no longer that ten minutes with each subject. I had to shoot in a very small space and was asked NOT to use props. Lighting became even more important to embrace the talents features. It was a great job for a 27 year old to land in NYC after only being there a few years at best.I shot the dress rehearsals and bumpers. Back than we shot and I ran downtown to my studio, processed film all night and made proof sheets. Selected approx nine images to print for the TV and made each guest a small crafted portfolio from the show. I made 2 20x24 silver prints and had the guest sign them and popped them in a frame to line the SNL walls for that season. It was a wild ride and good fun. Enjoy the book and thank you for looking.
