RE. SNIP I listened to the CD. For a person that isn't much of a mystery-reader, I found that I could stop listening, BUT couldn't wait to turn it back on. The audio version was extremely well done, just like I was there. Congratulations to the writer and the audio readers.

People protect their own, through higher circumstances than one would think. "Snip" follows Jack Vu as he must investigate the story behind a questionable suicide as an Air Force Special Investigator. Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, Vu's must go to clear the name of a cop who is wrongfully accused - but he must deal with a hostile town which is overly protective of its own. "Snip" is a great mystery, highly recommended to many a reader.

SNIP has everything I like in a mystery; intrigue, crime, drama, humor, sex, vivid descriptions and an entertaining group of characters. This book has several plots that kept me engaged and captivated. I read it while traveling and the time flew by. SNIP was more of a getaway than my trip. A truly enjoyable mystery that I thought of long after I read the last page. Doc Macomber is an author to watch.
What a tasty stew.

Snip is one of those rare mysteries filled with fully realized characters from every walk of life and level of income. From the opening chapter with the hilarious sniping of the old black men, Leon and Willy, to the text messaging privileged daughters of the horseracing set, the story educates and delivers an even balance of humor and angst while weaving the readers through two seemingly unconnected murders. Jack Vu, the Vietnamese investigator, brings a Zen-like calm exterior while his mind twists and conjectures. Plus, I've never seen anybody get as much out of a joke involving horse droppings. The bonus of this book was the post Katrina New Orleans scenes that contrasted so dramatically with the wealthy Louisville residents' lives. I highly recommend this book, which is the third in a series. Can't wait for #4.
Best one yet!

I've read all of Doc's books and have to say they've all been entertaining, intriguing and intelligent. Each one is a gem. His style is evolving with each new story. "SNIP" is one of the most unique of all with regard to the diverse cast of characters. It was really easy to visualize them as they became more familiar to me through the story. I love the concept of incorporating a lesbian relationship within a murder mystery involving some returning characters, especially Vu. Of all the hundreds of crime mysteries I read Doc's are the only ones with a Vietnamese military investigator as the protagonist. How original! I definitely recommend "SNIP" as well as Doc's previous Vu mysteries. Lee Anna Bennett-Ashworth
