Dorothy Gray has discovered something alarming.
She may be a criminal.
Apparently, smoking cannabis is illegal. Fortunately, society has provided her with a perfectly respectable alternative: champagne.
And so begins another gloriously improper adventure through a world in which three martinis are networking, prescription drugs come in respectable packaging, day drinking is called brunch, wellness is vice with better branding, and rich people never get wasted. They overindulge.
Meanwhile, at Oldman Insurance, Dorothy is busy protecting the interests of extraordinarily wealthy women married to extraordinarily elderly men - some of whom are proving distressingly difficult to kill. Mordecai has become a therapist. Janet Wackson remains Janet Wackson. And Death himself appears to have concerns.
Between longevity clinics, billionaire husbands, nervous breakdowns, school-gate mothers, luxury wellness retreats, zombies and the occasional joint, Dorothy begins to wonder whether society is really opposed to bad behaviour - or merely bad behaviour without the correct branding.
Sharp, absurd and unapologetically improper, Smoking Cannabis Is Illegal: Please Have a Glass of Champagne Instead is a satire of respectability, intoxication, wealth, wellness and the peculiar rules we invent to distinguish acceptable vice from unacceptable vice.
Because perhaps freedom isn't doing whatever you're told not to do.
Perhaps it's knowing why you're doing it in the first place.
Dorothy Gray is back. And she has questions.
