William "Smokey" Robinson Jr., born on February 19th, 1940, Detroit, Michigan, U.S, is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. Smokey was the founder and front man of the Motown vocal group the Miracles, for which he was also chief songwriter and producer. Robinson led the group from its formation as the Five Chimes during 1955, until he announced his retirement from the group to focus on his role as Motown's vice president in 1972.
