Smith's Lake takes Robin and Holly Luke to Canada to assess the condition of a deserted holiday camp which The Aurora Native American Foundation are interested in purchasing. The opportunity to use a vintage seaplane is an attraction and Holly wastes no time in giving the Norseman as suitable name. The first friend they make is a raccoon which is smart enough for Holly to name Socrates. Socrates wins the four teens over and enjoys fishing with Grant and Robin and likes his smoked trout with either jetchuo or tartare sauce. The discovery of a note book sends the foursome on a quest for The Valley of The Spirits, with Wal Pitcairn, ex New Zealand military, for adult content. The odyssey becomes a battle between the notorious Joubert, Tamarins and Romano clans for whatever awaits in The Valley. All end up disappointed except Robin, Holly, Antonia and Grant, who benefit a little in practical terms, and greatly in Spiritual education. Robin acquires another pilot friend in Spirit and much work to do in writing his story. A return to Canada is essential.
