Smile Protocol

By Derek Moody

At Super Maid Caf (TM), every employee is expected to smile. No matter what.

Nineteen-year-old Mara Ellis only wants a steady paycheck and a chance to move forward. Instead, her first shift introduces her to the caf 's strange employee wellness system: a smiling pin that monitors stress, rewards positive emotions, and makes anger and fear disappear almost instantly.

At first, it seems creepy but harmless.

Then Mara sees the other maid.

Half of the woman's face is hidden in unnatural darkness. One eye is blue. The other burns red. And whenever the employees are ordered to smile, she seems to grow stronger.

When the caf locks down and the mysterious Smile Protocol begins, Mara discovers the truth: the system has never been removing anyone's emotions.

It has been sending them somewhere else.

Now a missing employee may still be alive, a former worker named Evelyn may be trapped at the center of the nightmare, and management knows far more than they are willing to admit.

To survive the night, Mara will have to do the one thing Super Maid Caf (TM) has trained everyone not to do:

Feel everything.

Super Maid Caf (TM) Smile Protocol is a standalone young adult horror story filled with supernatural mystery, psychological horror, sinister technology, creepy mascots, and a workplace where happiness is mandatory.
