When Tom goes to stay overnight at Granny's house, he remembers to pack everything . . . except his favorite toy, Small. Tom can't sleep without Small and imagines him sad and lonely at home. Small can't sleep, either, so he gathers up his courage and climbs out the bedroom window to make his way through the darkness to Granny's--and a happy reunion with Tom. With soft, appealing artwork and an enchanting blend of fantasy and reality, Clara Vulliamy has created a comforting bedtime story about the adventure of a night away from home.
The little boy in the illustrations is realistically adorable; his stuffed mouse is more or less equally cute. But the really striking aspect of the book, I think, is the boy and mouse's unwavering faith in each other's love. Although Small is missing, neither he nor Tom doubts for a moment that the absence is accidental. Their emotion is pure, obvious, and appealing. This book is absolutely excellent.
Really sweet

This is an adorable children's book--great illustrations, reasonable plot, complete with a "catch" at the end that resolves the plot in a manner that is satisfying to both the adult reader and the child.
