Small Scenes in the Scheme of Things

An anthology of short stories, linking lives over 120 years.

The stories examine generational change and how individuals are affected by the passing of time. Each story takes place fifteen years after the previous one and has two characters, one of whose voices narrates the story. Each story is, essentially, an every day scene involving ordinary people but set against huge global/macro events.

From two young steelworkers in 1900, to a British nurse and USAAF pilot in 1945, to two successful musicians in 2020, Small Scenes in the Scheme of Things is a series of nine stories. While they can be read in isolation of each other, they are bound together by the characters. Read in sequence, they are vignettes in which we see how those characters are affected by the world around them. Dealing with subjects like the love of literature, warfare, political and social change, death and grief, the stories are an emotional roller coaster with many highs and lows.
