This book is aimed at anyone interested in understanding a bit about living in a shantytown or living below the poverty line in Brazil. Understanding how it is growing up as a teenager in a Brazilian shantytown. If you look from outside, yes, Brazil is a beautiful country; Carnival, beautiful beaches, Amazon Forest, Amazon river, beautiful flora and fauna but Brazil also has a very dirty and ugly reality; It is a country which corruption runs at the centre of anything, it is a country where the majority of people live below the poverty line, where "coronels" dictate positions, politics and salary. Where Drugs and violence run unchallenged by the authorities, where everyone wants to take advantage of each other, where there is a popular saying "Se os pol?ticos roubam, porque eu n?o posso roubar?" which translates "If politicians commit a crime, why can't I?"There are so many wrong things in Brazil, that it is difficult to start telling you what is wrong. The culture seems to incentivise wrongdoing, and if you don't know someone or don't pay someone, or your family does not know a politician, you will get nowhere. That is the sad reality. We hear a lot about black people suffering, but I do not make the distinction, there are black, white, mulatos, Indians, northeasters all suffering equally with inequality and violence. A lot of black teenagers die, but a lot of white poor and mulatos also die and the inequality and violence do not choose the colour. Brazil is a country full of prejudice, against blacks? YES, but I think and I believe if you are poor you can suffer it much more.
